The CBI has registered case against five officials of V.O.C. Port Trust and two others for allegedly syphoning off pension fund to the tune of ₹4.51 crore.
Following information about misappropriation of pension funds in V.O.C. Port Authority, the CBI started inquiry.
The investigation reportedly revealed that Kishore Babu and Manikanda Prabhu of a private firm, to which the pension fund handling had been outsourced, manipulated the data of the pensioners with the help of Port authorities – Senior Accounts Officer Anuradha, Accounts Officer Palani Kumarasamy, Electronic Data Officer Rogers Durairaj, Assistant Director of Electronic Data Enforcement Kaliappan and Senior Assistant Santhana Sankar – for misappropriation of funds.
They had included the names of 27 dead pensioners in the pensioners’ list and diverted this fund to the tune of ₹4.51 crore till March 2024 to the fake bank accounts created in the names of their friends and relatives.
Hence, the CBI has registered case against the seven suspects, sources in the Port said.
