Members of the Dravidar Kazhagam (DK) on Saturday staged protests across central region districts as part of a State-wide agitation condemning alleged irregularities in the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) and demanding its complete abolition.

The protests were organised under the slogan that NEET should be scrapped across India to protect students’ rights, safeguard State rights, and prevent what the organisation termed as “distortions” of the Constitution.

In Tiruchi, the protest was held near Khadi Kraft in front of the Tiruchi Junction, led by district women’s wing president Regina Balraj. Representatives of the DMK, the CPI, the CPI(M), the MDMK, the VCK, and the Indian Union Muslim League addressed the gathering, accusing the Union government of promoting an examination system detrimental to rural and government school students.

In Ariyalur, a demonstration was held near the Anna statue under the leadership of district president Viduthalai Neelamegam. Political leaders and representatives from various parties participated and reiterated the demand for the abolition of NEET.

At Needamangalam in Tiruvarur district, DK cadres assembled near the Periyar statue and raised slogans against the Centre.

In Nagapattinam, the protest was organised near the new bus stand under the leadership of district president Napoleon. Nagapattinam DMK district secretary N. Gowthaman and CPI(M) State committee member Nagai Mali participated.
