The Central University of Karnataka, Kalaburagi, has commenced the online admission process for postgraduate programmes for the academic year 2026-27 even as it introduced six new postgraduate courses starting this academic session.

Addressing presspersons at the university guesthouse in Kadaganchi on Wednesday, Vice-Chancellor Battu Satyanarayana said that candidates who have qualified in CUET (PG)-2026 or GATE-2026 are eligible to apply for admissions through the CUK-SAMARTH portal.

He said that the last date for online registration is June 10, till 11 a.m.

He said that the university currently offers 34 two-year postgraduate programmes and 15 one-year postgraduate programmes in various disciplines, including Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences, Management, Science and Engineering.

He added that hostel facilities will be provided for all students who get admission, while those from Kalyana Karnataka region will continue to benefit from the 8% reservation under Article 371(J).

Prof. Satyanarayana said that the six new courses being introduced in 2026-27 academic year are M.Sc in Genetics and Genomics, M.Sc in Zoology, M.Sc in Botany, M.Sc in Statistics and Data Analytics, M.Tech in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning and Master of Library and Information Science.

He said that the required teaching staff for the new programmes have already been recruited.

Highlighting the university’s academic growth, the Vice-Chancellor said that the Central University, established under the Central Universities Act, 2009, has emerged as a leading institution for higher education and research in the country with emphasis on quality education, innovation, research and skill development.

Prof. Satyanarayana also announced the launch of a new “earn while learning” initiative aimed at promoting self-reliance and skill development among students.

Under the programme, 100 first-year postgraduate students will be selected initially and provided a monthly honorarium of ₹3,000 for six months.

He said that the programme will be funded through CSR support from NBCC. A sum of ₹1 crore will be spent over five years.

As part of the initiative, students will spend around one-and-a-half hours a day on activities such as environmental conservation, plantation drives on campus and teaching students in nearby villages without affecting their academic schedule, he added.

In-charge Registrar and Dean of the School of Law Basavaraj Kubakaddi, Controller of Examinations Kota Sai Krishna, Public Relations Officer Ganapati Sinnur, Assistant Registrar Srikanth Kusur and Deans of various schools were present.
