The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Saturday (April 25, 2026) said post-poll scrutiny of Form 17A and related election documents was completed smoothly in Tamil Nadu, which voted on April 23, and in West Bengal, where Phase 1 of polling concluded on the same day.
The verification exercise was conducted on April 24 across all 152 Assembly constituencies in West Bengal and 234 constituencies in Tamil Nadu, in the presence of general observers and candidates or their representatives.
Over 600 candidates participated in West Bengal, while 1,825 candidates or their representatives were present in Tamil Nadu.
The ECI said all candidates were informed in advance about the scrutiny process. No re-polls were recommended in either State after examining records from 44,376 polling stations in West Bengal and 75,064 in Tamil Nadu.
The Commission added that the entire process was videographed, and documents were re-sealed after verification. EVM-VVPAT units have been secured in strong rooms under strict surveillance, including round-the-clock security, CCTV monitoring, and a double-lock system.
Officials have been directed to conduct regular inspections of the strong rooms, while candidates’ representatives are also permitted to monitor the premises.
