Tiruchi Corporation is set to float a tender within a month to rent out a portion of the integrated wholesale vegetable and fruit market complex developed at Panjapur along the Tiruchi–Madurai National Highway.

The project is being implemented at an estimated cost of ₹236 crore. Of this, ₹120 crore had been sanctioned under the Infrastructure and Amenities (I&A) Funds while ₹8 crore each had been allocated from the Capital Grant Fund 2025-26 and the Corporation Fund 2025-26. The remaining ₹100 crore had been mobilised through the issue of municipal bonds.

According to officials, civil work for a section comprising around 107 shops had been completed. Minor works, including electrical fittings and shutter installation, are under way. The remaining work is expected to be completed soon making the shops ready for occupation.

For pulses traders

“Four blocks, earmarked for pulses traders, have been completed. Tenders will be floated by mid-June to invite bids from traders interested in occupying the facility. Rent will be finalised in the coming weeks,” said L. Madhubalan, Corporation Commissioner.

Construction on other blocks are progressing at a fast pace with contractors instructed to expedite the construction of the block. Progress of the project was being closely monitored through regular reviews to ensure timely completion, an official said.

The integrated market complex has been developed on 11 acres of land at Green Park. As per the plan, the facility will have seven blocks with ground plus two floors. The first and second blocks will have 872 shops with 436 shops in each block. The first and second blocks will house both wholesale and retail shops. About 100 shops will be allotted to pulses traders and a separate open auction facility constructed.

Construction of a dining space with a seating capacity of 150 to serve traders and truck drivers, sanitation complexes on all floors, and a parking lot with the facility to park 1,100 two-wheelers, 200 cars, and 102 cargo vehicles are part of the project.
