Chennai: VGP Marine Kingdom has successfully recorded the breeding of the Brownbanded Bamboo Shark (Chiloscyllium punctatum), marking one of the first such successful captive breeding achievements in an Indian aquarium.
The Brownbanded Bamboo Shark is a unique species found in the Indo-Pacific region and is known for its distinctive brown bands during its early stages of life.
This achievement reflects the high standards of marine care and habitat management maintained at VGP Marine Kingdom. The successful breeding also supports marine conservation efforts by helping reduce dependence on wild shark populations and promoting sustainable aquarium practices.
The shark eggs are currently being safely cared for in a dedicated quarantine and incubation setup by the aquarium’s marine experts.
Visitors to VGP Marine Kingdom can also witness the incubation process and learn more about marine conservation and shark species up close.

This milestone highlights VGP Marine Kingdom’s continued efforts towards marine education, awareness, research, and biodiversity conservation in India.
Media houses, digital publications, TV channels, environmental organizations, and influencers are invited to cover this special milestone.
