Residents of Sirunangai village near Thirumarugal staged a road blockade on Nagore–Tiruvarur Road on Wednesday, protesting disruption in drinking water supply.
According to sources, around 20 families reside in Sirunangai village under Uthamasozhapuram panchayat in Thirumarugal union. Residents alleged that drinking water supply provided by the panchayat administration had been disrupted for the past two days owing to a fault in the electric motor.
Angered over the issue, villagers gathered on Nagore–Tiruvarur Road carrying empty pots and staged a sudden road roko demanding immediate restoration of water supply.
On receiving information, government officials and Nagore police rushed to the spot and held talks with the protesters.
Subsequently, the fault in the electric motor was rectified and drinking water supply was restored immediately. Following this, the protesters withdrew the agitation and dispersed peacefully.
