The Town Hall meeting organised by Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation with public representatives from the corporation’s purview experienced heat over the management of the solid waste management facility at Jawaharnagar, and the pollution it is causing.

Member of Parliament from Malkajgiri, Eatala Rajender, noting that development is everybody’s responsibility, suggested decentralisation of solid waste management through establishment of processing facilities of smaller scale all around the city.

Medchal MLA Ch. Malla Reddy lambasted the concessionaire firm, saying not even three paise are being spent by them under the Corporate Social Responsibility while their promise was ₹35 crore. He demanded free supply of water and waiver of property tax for residents affected by the dump yard.

LB Nagar MLA Sudheer Reddy said women’s health is at stake due to the dump yard, and claimed that the polluted water is causing abortions. He also cautioned that the monsoons are close by, while the Strategic Nala Development works are yet to be completed.

Uppal MLA B. Lakshma Reddy flagged death of fish due to pollution from the dump yard, and complained that the stench from the yard is spreading as far as Sainikpuri.

Maheshwaram MLA P. Sabitha Indra Reddy questioned the dumping of solid waste from three corporations at Jawahar Nagar, and demanded that new facilities be created on all sides. MLC Patnam Mahender Reddy promised to resolve the issue.

Commissioner T. Vijay Krishna Reddy spoke about a planned visit to the solid waste facility along with all the public representatives. He informed about Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s directives towards resolution of the issue as soon as possible.
