Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) State spokesperson Palode Santhosh on Thursday (April 30, 2026) filed a complaint with the State Police Chief demanding action against those who indulged in “corruption, criminal conspiracy and wilfully negligence of duty”, causing the floods that ravaged the State in 2018. He claimed in the complaint that the flood was not a natural disaster, but wilfully caused through a criminal conspiracy involving Ministers and contractors for financial gain.
Mr. Santhosh has levelled allegations against Power Minister K. Krishnankutty, the then Minister for Water Resources Mathew T. Thomas, the then Chief Engineer of Kerala Water Authority and Mary Matha Constructions. He alleged that the opening of dam shutters were delayed to ensure that Mary Matha Constructions would be able to extract mineral-rich soil, enabling the company to make a financial gain of ₹3,000 crore.
