The 6th Additional District and Sessions Court, Mangaluru, has rejected the anticipatory bail application filed by activist Mahesh Shetty Thimarody in connection with a compliant registered against him alleging abuse of and threats to family members of a Yakshagana artiste.

The complainant, a Yakshagana artiste, alleged that Mr. Thimarody called the artiste in November 2025 in connection with the telecast of ‘Burude Gang’ episode in the ‘Yaksha Talike’ humour series progamme of a local private channel. Objection to the title of the episode, Thimarody abused not just the artiste but also his wife and other family members.

The artiste filed a complaint with Dakshina Kannada Women Police Station in Puttur seeking action against Thimarody for use of filthy words against his wife.

Thimarody filed a petition under Section 482 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Surakshha Sanhita seeking bail in anticipation of his arrest.

On May 6, Judge Rajesh Maruthi Kamathe dismissed Thimarody’s application.

Activist and allegations of mass burials in Dharmasthala

Mr. Thimarody came into the limelight after being booked, along with Chinnaiah and three others, by a Special Investigation Team for filing a false compliant about mass burial of bodies in Dharmasthala.

Based on the report of the police about Thimarody’s engaging in criminal activity, Puttur Assistant Commissioner Stella Verghese recently passed an order externing him out of the district. She passed the order for the third time after two earlier orders were stayed by the High Court of Karnataka. The High Court rejected the application of Thimarody seeking a stay on the third externment order.
