With Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) showing a firm lead in 185 of the 294 seats in the West Bengal Assembly Elections, mother of RG Kar victim and BJP candidate Ratna Debnath is leading by 8,067 votes against her nearest rival Tirthankar Ghosh from All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) in Panihati seat. The poll figures were released by the Election Commission of India (ECI) in the second of the fifteenth round on Monday (May 4, 2026).
According to the ECI, Ms. Debnath polled 21,313 votes against Ghosh’ share of 13,246 votes. Meanwhile, Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI [M]) candidate Kalatan Dasgupta remains distant third with 4,830 votes.
