The State government is introducing reforms in the AYUSH sector to expand and improve the quality of healthcare services and curb the distribution of fake drugs, according to Minister for Health, Medical Education and Family Welfare Satya Kumar Yadav.

In a press release issued on Monday(May 11), the Minister said that following the Governor’s approval to the Andhra Pradesh Allopathic Private Medical Care Establishments (Registration and Regulation) (Amendment) Act, 2026, new guidelines would soon be implemented. To frame these guidelines, the government has constituted three committees — an expert committee, a stakeholders committee and a technical committee.

Mr. Satya Kumar Yadav said the committees would consult AYUSH experts and the public, gather suggestions and submit recommendations to the government. The entire exercise is expected to be completed by the end of this month.

Acting on the Minister’s directions, AYUSH In-Charge Director Ronanki Gopalakrishna has initiated the process of forming the committees. As part of drafting the operational framework, the committees will study best practices followed in Kerala, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.

The technical committee will examine AYUSH treatment protocols, the expert committee will focus on regulatory measures, and the stakeholders committee will collect public feedback. Their findings will be compiled into a final report on the proposed framework and guidelines.

The Minister said the amended Act aims to strengthen the regulatory framework and promote traditional systems of medicine such as Ayurveda, Homoeopathy, Siddha, Unani and Naturopathy under AYUSH. He noted that unqualified practitioners are currently operating clinics in some places and the government intends to curb such practices. Under the proposed regulations, all AYUSH clinics and hospitals will have to obtain registration from the AYUSH Department.

Mr. Satya Kumar Yadav said the State, with support from the Union government, is entering a new phase in the development of AYUSH medicine. He added that integrated hospitals and AYUSH medical colleges would be established in the government sector and efforts would be made to bring AYUSH healthcare services on par with allopathy.
