Rugby, May 7.:Reports from all quarters indicate that no further extension of the general strike has occurred. Although in isolated instances strikers have resumed work, there is, on the whole, little change in the general situation. The strike of miners and railwaymen continues to be practically solid. In some Westmoreland pits mine workers are reported to have returned to duty and in other instances railway staffs have been reinforced by the return of a few men, but in neither case does the movement represent an important tendency. No attempt is being made to reopen mines with volunteer labour, but, as a communique indicates, railways, trams and omnibus systems are being increasingly operated by skilled and unskilled volunteers.

At principal points everything appears to be quiet.

At Liverpool the shipping and ferry services are being maintained. There are over fifteen hundred men working at docks discharging food supplies and more men are available as required. All ocean sailings have been maintained at Southampton. Ship-building establishments are working normally with usual labour. In other ports repair work is for the most part suspended, but workers on new construction are remaining at their posts.
