A three-day training workshop for enumerators and supervisors engaged in the Census 2026-27 exercise began in Karaikal on Monday.
According to an official release, the first phase of the census operation in Karaikal district — covering the enumeration of buildings and houses — will be conducted from June 1 to June 30, 2026. The second phase, involving population enumeration, is scheduled for February 2027.
District Collector and Principal Census Officer Ishita Rathi, and Sub-Collector and District Census Officer M. Pooja, are overseeing the exercise in the district. Karaikal Tahsildar Poiyyathamurthi, Thirunallar Tahsildar Shanmuganandam, and Deputy Tahsildar Manikandan Namboothiri are also involved in the census operations.
The training programme for census staff and supervisors is being held from May 11 to 13. Ms. Pooja inaugurated the workshop at the Kamarajar campus in Karaikal.
Similar training sessions have also commenced at a technical college in Varichikudy and at PKIT College in Nedungadu Cherumavilangam.
Officials said the training would be conducted in two phases. The first phase will conclude on May 13, while the second phase is scheduled from May 18 to 20.
Assistant Director (Census) Kumaran from Puducherry addressed the participants. Lecturers from Karaikal Polytechnic College and trainers from other colleges explained the census procedures and enumeration methods to the personnel and supervisors taking part in the workshop.
The training programme will continue till May 13, the release added.
