The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) said on Monday that birth certificates of children born within its limits would be sent directly to the WhatsApp numbers of the parents. According to a press release, birth certificates, which were earlier issued only through the GCC website, will now be delivered in PDF format to the parents’ mobile numbers registered at the time of birth at any hospital under GCC jurisdiction. The release added that birth certificates could also be downloaded through the civic body’s WhatsApp chatbot — 94450 61913.
