Monsoon activity remains low in Andhra Pradesh due to El ...
The Hindu Bureau · 2026-06-15 · via The Hindu: Latest News today from India and the World, Breaking news, Top Headlines and Trending News Videos.

The monsoon activity in Andhra Pradesh has remained subdued thus far, with 17 out of the 28 districts reporting deficient rainfall between June 1 and June 14. The Southwest Monsoon arrived in the State on June 6 and is expected to cover the remaining parts of the State in the next three days. However, many districts continue to experience intense heat due to the active El Nino conditions.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) - Amaravati has forecast light showers in isolated areas (one or two places) in three regions of South Coastal A.P. (SCAP) and Rayalaseema for the next week. A few areas in the North Coastal A.P. region may also receive light showers. However, thunderstorm activity is expected to continue across the State this week.

According to the IMD, a trough extends from the west-central Bay of Bengal off the south coast of Andhra Pradesh to south Tamil Nadu, across the southwest Bay of Bengal, at altitudes between 3.1 and 4.5 km above mean sea level. This trough can bring light showers to the State.

On Sunday (June 14), a maximum of 50 mm of rainfall was recorded in Devanabanda in Kurnool district. Pachipenta in Srikakulam district and the Nagara Panchayat Office area in Nellimarla of Vizianagaram district recorded 38.5 mm, while Gurla in Vizianagaram recorded 36.5 mm.

The IMD forecasted light to moderate rain, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning, on Monday (June 15), likely at isolated places in the districts of Manyam, Alluri Sitarama Raju, East Godavari, West Godavari, Eluru, Krishna, NTR, Palnadu, Prakasam, Markapuram, Nellore, Nandyal, and Tirupati.
