Three persons accused of criminal activities in Udupi district and allegedly involved in a total of 30 criminal cases, have been externed to Shivamogga, Bidar and Uttara Kannada districts.
According to a press note, Udupi Superintendent of Police Hariram Shankar, exercising his powers as Special Executive Magistrate, has externed Mohammed Danish Madani, 23, of Gulwadi village in Kundapura taluk, to the limits of Shikaripura Town police station in Shivamogga district. He is accused in eight criminal cases registered at Kundapura Rural police station.
Karani Mushin, 44, of Kavradi village in Kundapura taluk, has been externed to the limits of Gandhi Gunj police station in Bidar district. He is accused in seven criminal cases registered at Kundapura Rural police station.
Illiyas, 36, of Padur village in Kapu taluk, has been externed to the limits of Karwar City police station in Uttara Kannada district. He is accused in 15 criminal cases registered at Shirva Police Station.
The orders externing the three accused were issued on Wednesday. The 30 criminal cases against them include charges of murder, attempt to murder, cattle theft, cow slaughter, house-breaking, theft, grievous assault and stone-pelting at police stations.
Mr. Shankar said the three accused have been directed to report to the police stations concerned every Wednesday. They have also been asked to contact the police inspector concerned every day using the SIM cards provided by the police. If they fail to comply with the directions, they will be arrested and remanded to judicial custody, he said.
Over the last one year, the Udupi police, to curb illegal activities and rowdyism, have invoked the provisions of the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT NDPS) Act against three accused. The Goonda Act has been invoked against four persons, while 14 accused have been externed, the Udupi SP said.
