Health Minister C. Damodar Raja Narasimha on Tuesday inspected the trial run of medical services currently under way at the Telangana Institute of Medical Sciences (TIMS), Sanathnagar, and directed officials to complete all pending works ahead of the hospital’s inauguration in June. While sources indicated that the inauguration is likely to be held on Telangana Formation Day on June 2, no official confirmation has been issued so far.

The Minister toured all three blocks of the hospital and reviewed the functioning of various departments and facilities. He inspected the out-patient (OP) registration area, in-patient wards, emergency department, CT scan and MRI units, laboratories, mechanised laundry and kitchen facilities.

Mr. Raja Narasimha instructed officials from the Roads and Buildings department and the Health department to ensure that all remaining works are completed within the stipulated deadline. He stressed that there should be no interruptions in water and power supply to the hospital and directed officials to maintain 24-hour services.

The Minister also directed officials not to compromise on fire safety standards and ordered a comprehensive re-inspection of all floors in the hospital building.

Reviewing arrangements at the reception area, help desk, OP counters, waiting halls, consultation rooms, diagnostic sections, inpatient wards and pharmacy, the Minister suggested increasing the number of registration and pharmacy counters to improve patient convenience and reduce waiting time.

He further directed officials to ensure that the hospital is fully equipped with all necessary facilities by the time of its inauguration, stating that the primary objective should be to provide superior medical services to poor patients.

The 1,000-bed hospital will include 300 emergency beds and is being developed as a premier facility dedicated to handling critical emergencies and saving lives, he added.
