Bengaluru-based Mount Carmel College (Autonomous) is aiming to get university status soon, with the institution planning to expand its academic offerings through a new campus at Thondebhavi located in Gauribidanur taluk of Chickballapur district, according to college officials. The development comes two years after the college opened all its undergraduate and postgraduate courses to boys in 2024, ending its over 70-year run as an all-girls institution.
College officials confirmed that the paperwork related to the proposed transition has been completed. “As part of the expansion, the institution has identified Thondebhavi for its new campus, where it plans to introduce professional courses such as engineering and nursing, while the present Vasanth Nagar campus will continue to run its existing arts, commerce and management programmes,” a senior administration member said.
