The Peelamedu police on Sunday (May 31, 2026) arrested three persons on charge of possessing over 20 grams of synthetic drug methamphetamine in Coimbatore.
The arrested were identified as M. Jaikishan (21) of New Siddhapudur, M. Shyam (26) of Ponni Nagar at Pappanaickenpalayam and K. Senthurpandi (32) of P.M. Samy Colony at Rathinapuri.
Sources said that the three persons were traced to a location near the Regional Transport Office at Peelamedu Pudur on Sunday, based on specific information that they were engaged in alleged sale of the synthetic drug.
A team from the Peelamedu station apprehended them and seized a little over 20 grams of methamphetamine, which falls in the intermediate quantity category for the drug. They were arrested under different Sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Sources said Jaikishan had been pursing his bachelors in Mechanical Engineering at a private engineering college on Avinashi Road in Peelamedu. They added that the drug was being sold, mainly to college students, for a rate ranging from ₹6,000 to 7,000 per gram. Remand procedure for the three persons was under way late on Sunday.
