On Friday (May 1, 2026), U.S. President Donald Trump rejected the 60-day limit set by the War Powers Resolution, calling it “totally unconstitutional,” and said that his administration has no plans to seek congressional approval for the continuation of military operations related to the conflict with Iran.
Mr. Trump, speaking to the press, rejected the legal framework established under the War Powers Resolution of 1973, which requires a President to obtain congressional approval to continue hostilities beyond 60 days.
