The Telangana BJP is stepping up efforts to enrol youth, along with intellectuals and women, as it prepares for the upcoming municipal corporation elections. Party president N. Ramchander Rao on Thursday said the party plans to allocate up to 90% of opportunities to young leaders.

Addressing a gathering after inducting new members at the State office, Mr. Rao said improved employment opportunities driven by the Centre’s economic reforms have made the BJP increasingly attractive to the youth. Prime Minister Narendra Modi too enjoys significant popularity among Gen Z, he said.

Accusing the Congress of attempting to mislead young people, Mr. Rao said there is a need to educate the current generation about how the then Congress government suppressed democracy during the Emergency in the mid-1970s.

“The Congress party must apologise to the people of the country for undermining the Constitution during the Emergency, when fundamental rights were curtailed and many were jailed. Leaders who carry copies of the Constitution today have no moral right to speak about it,” he asserted.

He further alleged that the Emergency undermined the spirit of the Constitution and disrespected Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, adding that the BJP remains committed to upholding constitutional values and protecting citizens’ rights.

Earlier, speaking to the media, Mr. Rao urged citizens to participate in the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) to ensure a clean and accurate electoral roll. “People should not believe falsehoods spread by the Congress, BRS and MIM parties. No genuine voter will be removed,” he said.

While the Congress and BRS parties have ‘opposed’ the SIR exercise, Mr. Rao pointed out that Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has asked ministers to take the process seriously. He alleged that the BRS is opposing SIR due to weakened cadre strength and booth-level networks.

The BJP also accused Congress leaders of spreading fear among North Indian migrants by falsely claiming they would lose property rights if their names were not registered where they work. Mr. Rao clarified that the SIR exercise targets only duplicate, fake, deceased or illegal entries, and not genuine voters or any community.
