Coimbatore Corporation Commissioner M. Sivaguru Prabakaran on Saturday (May 23) inspected Amma Unavagams functioning across the city and directed officials to maintain cleanliness, improve infrastructure and ensure uninterrupted supply of quality food to the public.

During the inspection, the Commissioner visited Amma Unavagams in different zones of the city and had the food served to the public.

According to a Corporation release, steps are being taken to improve infrastructure at Amma Unavagams, procure required cooking equipment and improve hygienic food preparation and distribution.

The Coimbatore Corporation plans to undertake improvement works at all the 12 Amma Unavagams functioning in the city to ensure clean and hygienic food distribution to the public.

The Commissioner inspected Amma Unavagams at Masakalipalayam Main Road, Singanallur bus stand, Poo Market Main Road, Devangapet Street, Mettupalayam Road bus stand, Maniyakarampalayam, Saravanampatti, Kuniyamuthur, Kovai Pudur, Podanur, Thirumal Street and the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital campus.

He interacted with workers regarding the requirements of the Amma Unavagams and instructed officials to prepare estimates for new works. He also directed staff to maintain cleanliness in and around the facilities and ensure hygienic preparation and distribution of food.
