The resignation of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has evoked an emotional response in Mysuru, with Congress leaders and supporters describing his contribution to the city and district as unmatched. They said Mysuru witnessed major development under his leadership, making his exit a difficult moment for many in the region.
Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) spokesperson M. Lakshman, a close follower of Mr. Siddaramaiah, said no other Chief Minister had contributed as much to Mysuru city and district as Mr. Siddaramaiah, who, according to him, had a clear vision for the development of his home region. He said the contributions made during both tenures of Mr. Siddaramaiah were ‘unmatched’.
“Never in the past, present or future can Mysuru witness such a scale of contribution,” he claimed.
Mr. Lakshman said Mr. Siddaramaiah’s development vision was particularly evident in the health and education sectors. “Between 2013 and 2018, Mr. Siddaramaiah allocated nearly ₹3,800 crore for Mysuru city and around ₹11,000 crore for the district. Since returning to office in 2023, he has allocated nearly ₹2,960 crore each for the city and the district till March 2026,” he added.
“It is a record of sorts that 48 schemes for Mysuru were announced in a single Budget,” he said.
Mr. Lakshman said ₹326 crore had been allocated for the expansion of Mysuru airport, which, according to him, would accelerate the region’s growth. “He had a vision for development and pursued it with commitment. People will remember his contributions for a long time,” he added.
Another Congress leader from Mysuru, H.A. Venkatesh, said the contributions of Mr. Siddaramaiah were immense and comparable to those of former Chief Minister D. Devaraj Urs, with both leaders hailing from Mysuru district and having served nearly eight years in power.
He said Mr. Siddaramaiah followed in the footsteps of Mr. Devaraj Urs, regarded as a champion of backward classes, and worked for the welfare of the poor. “When he first came to power in 2013, he ensured that no one slept hungry by launching the Anna Bhagya scheme,” he said.
Mr. Venkatesh also highlighted the implementation of the Congress government’s five guarantee schemes, which he said played a crucial role in bringing the party to power in the State. “Through Anna Bhagya and the guarantees, he sent out a strong message of social welfare. The promises made in the manifesto were fulfilled,” he said.
According to him, Mr. Siddaramaiah demonstrated how a government could work for development and welfare simultaneously. “His style of governance has become a model and will remain so despite allegations made by the Opposition,” he added.
