No new cases of shigellosis, a bacterial infection caused by Shigella, were reported in Wayanad district on Saturday (June 13). District Medical Officer (DMO) K.T. Rekha said surveillance, prevention and awareness activities were being intensified across the district.
The DMO said the health condition of all 16 children diagnosed with the disease remained stable.
So far, symptoms of the disease have been detected in 538 people. Seven more people who had been hospitalised with symptoms of shigellosis were discharged on Saturday. With this, the number of patients undergoing treatment in various hospitals in the district has come down to 23, Dr. Rekha added.
