Saranya Priya, 28, was arrested for stealing two iPhones and an AirPod here on Wednesday.

On Sunday, Madhesh, who works at a mall in Thirumangalam, received a call from Saranya, who said she wanted to buy two iPhones using her credit card.

On Monday afternoon, he visited the hospital in Anna Nagar where Saranya was employed and contacted her. But she told Madhesh that she was at another private hospital in Aminjikarai and asked him to go there.

When he visited that hospital and gave her two iPhones and an AirPod, she absconded with the products under the pretext of showing them to her mother over a video call.

Madhesh filed a complaint with Aminjikarai Police and a case was registered in this regard.

Scrutinising the CCTV footage, the police traced Saranya to the Nilgiris and arrested her. They recovered one of the iPhones from her.

Investigation revealed that she was residing in Chennai and was looking for a job.

She stole an iPhone for her partner and had given it to him. She has been remanded in judicial custody.
