An immigrant woman worker who was subjected to harassment and confinement in Oman after travelling there for employment has returned to her native place of Valmikipuram in Annamayya district, following the intervention of Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan.

Addressing the media here on Saturday, Additional Superintendent of Police M. Venkatadri said that Shahanaz from Valmikipuram had gone to Muscat a couple of years ago through local job agents. She was allegedly forced to work excessively over the past two months and denied the basic necessities, including food.

The police officer said that Ms. Shahanaz was reportedly confined to a dark room and prevented from stepping out, despite falling ill.

Her ordeal came to light after an emotional video call to her family members went viral on social media, prompting immediate action from the authorities.

Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan directed the officials concerned to coordinate with the Indian Embassy and the authorities in Oman to trace and rescue her.

After she reached Mumbai on Friday night, Mr. Pawan Kalyan bore the travel expenses for her journey to Hyderabad and finally to her native village. Ms. Shahanaz and her family expressed gratitude to Mr. Pawan Kalyan and the police officials.
