Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Wednesday (June 17, 2026) directed all departments to ensure continuous monitoring of all waterlogging-prone areas and warned that any negligence during the monsoon season will not be tolerated.
Ms. Gupta also directed to appoint nodal officers for every identified waterlogging point in the city, who will be held directly accountable in case of waterlogging at that particular point. She directed all departments to keep their teams on alert and remain prepared to deal with any emergency situation during the monsoon.
Earlier in the day, she chaired a meeting attended by MPs, Ministers and senior officials and shared the ‘Flood Control Order-2026’, which would guide all departments on drainage systems, river embankments, pumping stations, regulatory mechanisms, operational plans, machinery deployment and contact details of control rooms.
The CM said that the Delhi government’s objective is not merely to respond during disasters, but to identify potential risks in advance and ensure effective preventive measures.
“All equipment used for relief and rescue operations should be inspected in accordance with prescribed checklists. Departments were also instructed to make adequate arrangements for the safe evacuation of people in the event of flooding,” an official statement said.
The CM directed the Public Works Department (PWD) and other departments to ensure that all permanent pump houses are inspected and that mobile pumps are deployed in waterlogging-prone areas to prevent water accumulation across the city during the monsoon.
The Central Flood Control Room has been functioning on a 24x7 basis since June 15 and high-level sector committees have also been constituted under the leadership of Cabinet Ministers Parvesh Sahib Singh, Ashish Sood and Manjinder Singh Sirsa, as per the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO). Each sector committee will include three to four District Magistrates, who will be fully responsible for flood management and coordination in their respective areas.
Embankments and regulators along the Yamuna have been strengthened significantly and upgrades of major pump houses have been completed, as per the CMO.
During the meeting, public representatives raised issues related to waterlogging and drainage in Kirari, Mundka, Rohtak Road, Burari and other sensitive areas. The Chief Minister directed officials to maintain special monitoring in these locations and immediately implement additional pumping, desilting and drainage measures wherever required and also strengthen waterlogging-control measures in Kirari and ensure regular monitoring of the area.
