Post elections, the DMK functionaries at the Union and booth levels in Bodinayakkanur Assembly Constituency would be suitably rewarded with cash prizes worth ₹1 lakh and above based on their performance, said party district secretary and Lok Sabha MP Thanga Tamilselvan.
Speaking at a workers’ meeting in Bodi on Saturday, in the presence of its candidate O. Panneerselvam (OPS) and other office-bearers, Mr. Tamilselvan said the functionaries who brought in the maximum number of votes in favour of the party would be rewarded with cash prizes.
“We will have a grand gala function after elections in the constituency and honour the winners,” he added.
Mr. Panneerselvam said the toppers would also be awarded gold. The opponents should be nowhere near the winner and the DMK must be on the top of the scoreboard. Even the nearest rival should forfeit deposit, he said.
Double-barrel gun
Stating that Mr. Tamilselvan and Mr. Panneerselvam formed a double-barrel gun, former MLA and senior DMK functionary Lakshmanan said they would ensure the party’s victory in a big way. With former Chief Minister Mr. Panneerselvam joining the DMK, the party is at a big advantage, he said. The upbeat mood was very much visible in the constituency after the prize money was announced.
AIADMK reacts
However, the AIADMK managers were quick to respond to the prize money offered by the DMK and said Mr. Panneerselvam was forced to announce such rewards, knowing well that he was on the losing side. “All of this is not going to happen. The voters here are disappointed and disgusted with him for joining the DMK,” they added.
