Primary Health Centres (PHCs), that serve as the lifeline for rural people, have performed well on many indices, said the release according to the department of Health, Medical Education and Family Welfare.

The department said that PHCs are leading in the healthcare services including outpatient, inpatient, laboratory tests, deliveries. In October, 2025, 107 out of the total 1,144 PHCs in the State ranked A, this number went up to 312 in March this year.

Meanwhile, PHCs that were categorised as ‘B’ increased from 354 in October, 2025, to 455 in March. The number of hospitals in the ‘C’, ‘D’, and ‘E’ categories saw a gradual decrease over the six months. There were 298 hospitals in ‘C’ category, 72 in ‘D’, and 7 in ‘E’.

Director of Public Health K. Padmavathi submitted a report on the monthly performance of PHCs in the State, from October 2025 to March 2026, to the Minister for Health, Medical Education and Family Welfare Satya Kumar Yadav. The performance was reviewed based on data recorded in the Health Management Information System (HMIS), according to the release.

Every month, a PHC is expected to achieve 1,500 outpatient cases, 100 in-patient cases, 3,000 laboratory tests and 10 deliveries. Following instructions from the Minister, district-level authorities conducted review meetings with doctors from low-performing PHCs and took measures to improve healthcare services. This has improved the overall performance, according to the release.

Kurabalakota PHC in Annamayya district achieved ‘A’ rank every month from October to March. In East Godavari district, Brahmanagudem, Chagallu, and Nallajerla PHCs secured first-grade rankings six consecutive times. Tetagunta PHC in Kakinada district also achieved ‘A’ rank six times.

PHCs in West Godavari, Krishna, YSR Kadapa and Vizianagaram districts have received good feedback, while one or two PHCs in the districts of Polavaram, Markapuram, Srikakulam, SPSR Nellore and Chittoor were ranked E.

Chittoor district has the highest number of PHCs ranked D, followed by Alluri Sitharama Raju, Polavaram, Parvathipuram Manyam, Srikakulam and Eluru, according to the release.
