Four persons were killed in accidents reported in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts on Tuesday (May 5, 2026) and Wednesday (May 6, 2026).
Two persons died after they were run over by a water tanker at Chapalla in Savanoor village on the Kudmaru-Savanuru-Puttur road on Tuesday. The Bellare police gave the names of the deceased as Yagnesh and Jagan.
The police said Yagnesh was driving the two-wheeler towards Savanuru with his friend Jagan as pillion. At Chapalla around 4:15 p.m., the scooter was hit by a water tanker. The two fell off their vehicle and came under the wheels of the tanker. They were taken to Puttur Government Hospital where they succumbed to their injuries around 5:30 p.m. A case of rash and negligent driving leading to death was registered against Tilak, the driver of the water tanker.
Pedestrian killed
A pedestrian died after he was hit by a lorry near Sevanjali Hall in Farangipet on Tuesday.
The Bantwal Traffic police gave the name of the deceased as Salauddin. The police said the lorry coming towards Mangaluru from B.C. Road moved to the left and hit Salauddin around 5:30 p.m. The lorry driver sped away without stopping the vehicle. Salauddin was taken to a nearby private hospital where he died. The police registered a case against the lorry driver.
Motorist dies
A 57-year-old motorist, hailing from Gadag district, died after he was hit by a lorry near Bejadi junction in Kundapur of Udupi district in the early hours of Wednesday.
The police gave the name of the deceased as Parasappa Chandappa Lamani. The police said the lorry hit the motorcyclist as the latter was overtaking from the right near the junction. The incident occurred between 12.30 a.m. and 12.50 a.m.
The injured Lamani was taken to the Kundapur Taluk Hospital where the doctors declared him dead. On a complaint by the son of the deceased, the Kundapur police registered a case against the lorry driver Shabbir Hussain Haji Ibrahim.
