The Directorate of Medical and Rural Health Services has served a notice on a cosmetology clinic in Coimbatore to cease its operations for not following protocols as per new regulations for such clinics.
The action was initiated against a clinic of Sukira Aesthetics at Vadavalli in Coimbatore based on complaints from the Indian Association of Dermatologists, Venereologists and Leprologists (IADVL), Tamil Nadu branch.
As per the notice dated May 13 served by V. Sumathi, Joint Director of Medical and Rural Health Services, the clinic was inspected on April 29 based on complaints received from IADVL Tamil Nadu branch, its president P.K. Kaviarasan, secretary M. Prem Kumar and legal advisor R. Elayaraja.

During the inspection, a BDS degree holder alone was available at the clinic and the person did not possess any additional qualification to perform hair transplantation. The clinic did not have an anaesthetist or a plastic surgeon or a dermatologist and only one registered and qualified staff nurse was available at the time of the inspection.
The inspection revealed that the clinic lacked the certificate required as per rules of the Tamil Nadu Clinical Establishments (Regulation) Act (TNCEA) and a certificate from the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board. It did not have a memorandum of understanding with any hospital for emergency services. A minor operation theatre at the clinic was found not to have been maintained as per norms.

The clinic’s agreement for biomedical waste management expired on March 16, 2026 had not been renewed. There was no proper segregation of biomedical medical waste at the clinic, which also could not produce the fire safety certificate, the inspection revealed.
The notice served on the clinic stated that the clinic was offering treatment without obtaining the TNCEA certificate and in violation of G.O. (Ms) No. 41 dated February 13, 2026 issued by the Health and Family Welfare Department. It said that hair transplantation surgeries were not performed by appropriately qualified medical professionals.

The management of Sukira Aesthetics was instructed to remain shut until it obtains all the requisite certificates and permissions, including TNCEA certificate, for the operation of the clinic, a Health Department official said.
The notice also warned the clinic of initiating further action against it under TNCEA, if the instructions were violated. The Chief Medical Officer of the Government Hospital, Thondamuthur, has been instructed to take appropriate action against the clinic through the police department, in the event of any violation.
