The Coimbatore District (Rural) Police have got a shot in the arm with the new Master Command and Control Centre (MCCC) that was inaugurated on Thursday.

Located on the fourth floor of the District Police Office building, the 3,000 sq.ft- MCCC integrates multiple policing, surveillance, communication, emergency response and monitoring systems under a single operational platform. Equipped with a central LED video wall measuring 26x8 feet and two additional LED video walls measuring 10x8 feet each for real-time monitoring and coordinated policing operations, the facility is designed to function as the central nerve centre of district police.

The district police stated that live feeds from surveillance cameras across the district, including 28 automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) cameras, and regular 34 cameras installed at 13 checkposts along Tamil Nadu – Kerala borders, and eight ANPR cameras and 26 regular cameras installed at 11 district border checkposts, can be monitored from the MCCC.

Additionally, surveillance camera clusters installed in Pollachi, Valparai, Anaimalai, Periyanaickenpalayam, Karamadai, Sulur and other locations comprising over 1500 cameras have also been integrated into the system. The police stated that all 40 police stations in the district (rural) have also been equipped with CCTV cameras integrated with two-way communication systems for real-time monitoring and supervision.

According to the police, MCCC is manned round the clock by trained police personnel under 14 specialised operational desks, including VHF communication desk/base control, women and child safety desk, crime and investigation desk, cyber crime desk and road safety desk.

The smart surveillance desk monitors live CCTV feeds, ANPR systems, movements of suspicious vehicles, traffic violations and criminal activities across the district. The emergency response monitoring desk supervises emergency calls (100), GPS-based fleet monitoring systems, pink patrol operations and Smart Kavalar applications for swift response during emergencies, said the police.

The social media monitoring desk analyses social media platforms to identify rumours, misinformation, communal tension, law and order issues, and public grievances for immediate action.

During natural disasters, heavy rainfall, accidents, public emergencies, or law and order situations, the MCCC will function in close coordination with the district administration and disaster management authorities to ensure swift rescue, relief and emergency response measures.

Coimbatore District Collector Pavankumar G. Giriyappanavar inaugurated the MCCC in the presence of Inspector General of Police (West Zone) R.V. Ramya Bharathi, Deputy Inspector General of Police (Coimbatore Range) P. Saminathan, Coimbatore District Superintendent of Police K. Karthikeyan and Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation Commissioner M. Sivaguru Prabhakaran.
