Following the swearing-in of C. Joseph Vijay as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, the residents of his hometown, Muthupettai in Ramanathapuram district, celebrated grandly by bursting firecrackers and distributing sweets.

At the swearing-in ceremony held on Sunday morning in Chennai, Mr. Vijay, the president of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, took office as the 18th Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar administered the oath of office and the oath of secrecy to him.

Along with Mr. Vijay, nine others took the oath as ministers.

With TVK forming the government in Tamil Nadu, Vijay fans and TVK cadres throughout Ramanathapuram district celebrated enthusiastically. They shared their excitement earlier by bursting firecrackers and distributing sweets to the general public.

As part of this, in Muthupettai, Ramanathapuram district—Vijay’s ancestral home—the villagers and TVK volunteers expressed their joy by bursting firecrackers and distributing sweets.

Showing their allegiance to the new Chief Minister, the people, with an add-on excitement of him being their native, took immense joy in displaying his photos on banners and posters.

Even as the district saw only the Thirupuvanam TVK candidate Rajeev winning in the elections they took pride in celebrating the occasion of Mr. Vijay assuming office as CM.

They believed that with Mr. Vijay becoming the chief of the State it would hopefully bring about a relief to the long-standing issues of the place where he actually belonged to.

Locals recalling the connectivity of the actor’s family with the village, said, S. Senathipathi Pillai, Mr. Vijay’s grandfather, served as a station master in Thangachimadam in Ramanathapuram district.

During the early 1940s, his career took him to various locations across the district, including Chatrakudi, before he eventually established his home in Muthupettai.

Senathipathi’s family has deep roots in the local betel leaf trade, spanning two generations before him.

While Mr. Vijay’s father S. A. Chandrasekaran studied till class 10 in a school in Kamankottai, he later moved to Chennai in pursuit of a career in cinema.
