At least seven persons were injured in a clash between two groups over the distribution of pamphlets related to a property ownership dispute between a section of residents of Vennaimalai and the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowment (HR&CE) Department.

According to sources, a group of persons belonging to the Sri Balasubramaniaswamy Temple Inam Land Retrieval Movement reportedly distributed pamphlets to the affected persons, asking them to attend a meeting on Sunday (April 12, 2026).

However, a group of DMK cadres opposed the distribution, claiming that it was carried out at the instigation of the AIADMK to gain political mileage in the upcoming Assembly election, thereby leading to heated exchanges between the two groups. The situation escalated, with the two groups clashing with each other. Seven persons were injured in the clash. The injured were admitted to the Karur Government Medical College and private hospitals.

Based on separate complaints, the Karur police registered two cases against 19 persons belonging to the DMK and the AIADMK. 

M.R. Vijayabhaskar, candidate of the AIADMK in Karur constituency, who met the injured at a private hospital, said that there was nothing wrong with distributing notices to the affected persons, asking them to attend a meeting. It was condemnable that the DMK cadre had attacked them without any substance, he said.

M. Thiyagarajan, DMK candidate, who met the injured DMK workers at a hospital, said that Mr. Vijayabhaskar was causing trouble by instigating the group to rake up the Vennaimalai temple land dispute.
