As the first phase of the population census in Tamil Nadu is to be held between August 1 and 30 this year, the three-day training session for the staff to be involved in this exercise commenced at the Collectorate on Monday. They are being trained to prepare the list of houses in their enumeration area and collect details about the houses like area of construction, facilities in their houses etc. A four-member team from Chennai is training the enumerators.
District Revenue Officer M. Durai, who inaugurated the training session, said the eighth population census to be organised across the country since Independence in 1947 would be done in digital mode in a specially designed mobile application for accurately recording the population, details of head of the family, members of the family, their literacy, educational qualification, living standards, their houses, drinking water connection, drainage facility, properties, radio, television, car, bike, desktop computer, laptop, food habit etc.
Hence, the public should cooperate with the enumerators by giving the correct details about their houses and the families, Mr. Durai said.
During the next phase of the training, the enumerators will be trained on collecting details about the members of each family.
