The Crime Branch has filed a chargesheet in one of the three sexual assault cases against former Congress legislator Rahul Mamkootathil. The chargesheet relates to the third case he faces.

According to sources, the chargesheet under IPC Sections 376 (rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation) was filed before the Judicial First Class Magistrate in Thiruvalla a few days ago.

As per the prosecution case, Mr. Mamkootathil connected with the complainant through social media in 2024 and eventually persuaded her to book a hotel room in Thiruvalla under the guise of a private conversation. It was at this location that the former MLA allegedly assaulted the woman. He is also accused of intimidating the complainant after she informed him that she had become pregnant.

Mr. Mamkootathil was arrested on January 11. The Pathanamthitta District and Principal Sessions Court granted him bail on January 28. He had earlier secured anticipatory bail in the remaining cases from both a district court in Thiruvananthapuram and the Kerala High Court.
