The Chairman and Managing Director of Eastern Power Distribution Company of Andhra Pradesh Limited (APEPDCL), Prudhvitej Immadi on Monday said that heavy rain and gusty winds caused extensive damage to the power network across seven districts.
The adverse weather severely impacted distribution systems in Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Parvathipuram Manyam, Visakhapatnam, Anakapalli, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema, and East Godavari districts, as uprooted trees snapped overhead cables.
Infrastructure damage is severe in Srikakulam, with 41 power poles broken. The Anakapalli and Jaggampeta divisions suffered the worst impact, losing 279 electricity poles and 31 transformers, with nearly 20 kilometres of power lines damaged.
APEPDCL deployed rapid-response teams, equipped with cranes and pole-drilling machinery to clear trees and replace damaged infrastructure on a war footing. Adequate buffer stocks have been mobilised across the region. Residents are cautioned against approaching snapped wires and should report hazards to the helpline at 1912.
