The food safety teams of the Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC) conducted inspections at multiple restaurants and eateries across the Cyberabad region on Thursday, June 18, and detected hygiene and food safety violations, including cockroach infestation, stale food storage, poor sanitation and improper labelling practices.

At Bahar Cafe in Madeenaguda, officials found eggs used for baking being stored without proper cleaning, increasing the risk of contamination. The premises were found to be infested with cockroaches, while the manufacturing unit had uneven and slippery flooring. Rusted baking trays were being used and pigeons were spotted in the raw material storage area. Inspectors also noted that finished products carried only batch numbers and lacked manufacturing and expiry date labels.

At The Spice Kitchen, PNR Empire, the teams observed heavy cockroach infestation in the kitchen, freezer and storage areas. Grain pests were detected in stored food items and stale food was found kept in freezers. Food items were not properly labelled or date-marked, while raw chicken was stored without wrapping. Vegetarian and non-vegetarian items were kept together and sanitation standards near the wash area were found to be poor, with damaged flooring adding to the concerns.

At Nawaabs Restaurant in Anjaiah Nagar, stale food items, including meat, rice, noodles and chicken preparations were being stored in freezers. Officials found improper butchering practices with non-food-grade cutting surfaces, besides water stagnation and slippery floors in food preparation areas. The restaurant lacked a hot water sanitation facility for cleaning utensils and frozen prawns and prepared food items were stored without proper labels and date markings. The freezers were found to be unhygienic, with foul odour and blood accumulation. Inspectors also observed the use of unhygienic cleaning cloths in food handling areas. Minor pest activity was also noticed in storage areas.

At Brown Bear Bakery in Kukatpally, officials detected similar violations, including storage of unclean eggs used for baking, cockroach infestation, uneven and slippery flooring in the manufacturing unit and the use of rusted baking trays. Pigeons were found in the raw material storage area and finished products lacked manufacturing and expiry date details, carrying only batch numbers.
