After heavy rain on June 9 led to widespread inundation across several parts of the city, the Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC) has undertaken waterlogging mitigation and stormwater management works at eight locations identified as vulnerable to water accumulation across Madhapur and Serilingampally circles, including stretches near Durgam Cheruvu, Gachibowli, Kondapur and Khajaguda.

In Madhapur Circle-50, five critical locations were taken up for immediate remedial measures. At Vital Rao Nagar near Durgam Cheruvu, officials found plastic waste and floating debris had blocked the inlet of a box drain, affecting the discharge of stormwater. The existing grating was removed and the inlet opening widened to facilitate the smooth passage of rainwater and prevent water stagnation on the road.

At Malkam Cheruvu near the Leather Institute, specialised machinery was deployed to desilt and clean the adjoining storm water drain and cross-drain network, allowing free flow of rainwater into the lake.

Another vulnerable location, near Preston Prime Mall in Gachibowli, had clogged drain gratings and a blocked outfall channel leading towards Khajaguda Lake. CMC officials cleared the drainage line and restored the nala to its original carrying capacity to improve stormwater discharge and reduce the risk of water accumulation.

On the Cyber Towers to Yashoda Hospital road stretch near Smiline Dental Hospital, culvert vent openings were found to be inadequate to handle peak storm water flows. The openings were widened to increase discharge capacity and ensure uninterrupted movement of rainwater through the nala system.

At Jubilee Garden in Izzath Nagar, inspections revealed restrictions caused by silt accumulation, narrowed waterways and outlet constraints. Extensive desilting works were carried out and obstructions along the natural flow path were removed. CMC has also prepared a proposal to construct a dedicated storm water drain as a long-term solution to recurring waterlogging in the area.

In Serilingampally Circle-49, three major locations were prioritised. Near the State Election Commission building at Khajaguda, a drainage diversion pipeline obstructing the natural flow of storm water into Khajaguda Lake was removed and the nala restored.

At Santosh Dhaba in Kondapur, engineering and sanitation teams undertook intensive cleaning operations to clear blocked inlet vents and improve the efficiency of the stormwater drainage network. Coordination with HYDRAA is under way to address downstream bottlenecks and strengthen the drainage system further.

Near Malkam Cheruvu in Gachibowli, obstruction points restricting the inflow of storm water into the lake were removed, improving drainage efficiency and reducing the possibility of water accumulation in surrounding areas.
