A fact-finding committee will submit a report on the cross-voting in the Legislative Council polls in two days. Strict disciplinary action will follow based on that report, BJP MLC and member of the committee C.T. Ravi said in Belagavi on Sunday.

“The Congress has got 12 more votes than its strength in the Assembly. It is clear that 12 legislators have cross-voted. They may be from among the 63 BJP MLAs or the 18 Janata Dal(S) MLAs. Who they are, we do not know. But we will find out by using circumstantial evidence. The truth has to come out today or tomorrow. The party will definitely act against them,” he said.

Mr. Ravi said that he concurred with the statement of State party president B.Y. Vijayendra that a BJP Legislature Party meeting will be held in Dharmasthala where all party legislators will be asked to swear on oath before the deity.

“However, I do not think it is necessary as of now. The three-member fact-finding committee will try to find out who are the 12 cross-voters. The party will act against them. We can consider making the legislators swear before God later. Even if we are to assume that a meeting is held in Dharmasthala and every MLA swears on oath, it will not make much of a difference. Will that change the results of the Legislative Council polls? No. That is why we will use the tools available to us now. If that does not succeed, we will have no option left but to seek divine intervention,” he said.

“The party has suffered due to the betrayal of the legislators. We are convinced that those who are committed to the party ideology and are sincere will not indulge in cross-voting. Only those who are not committed and those who are looking for immediate political benefits will do such things,” Mr. Ravi said.

MLA Arvind Bellad said that it is time for all party legislators to introspect on the issue of cross-voting. “There is nothing wrong in what Mr. Vijayendra has said. It is not wrong to go to Dharmasthala and swear an oath. We have to consider this suggestion too,” he said.
