Chennai’s Big Fat T20 Quiz returns ahead of IPL 2026 final
2026-05-20 · via The Hindu: Latest News today from India and the World, Breaking news, Top Headlines and Trending News Videos.

The inaugural edition of QFI’s Big Fat T20 Quiz brought Chennai’s cricket buffs together last summer. With IPL fever reaching its peak, Chennai’s cricket enthusiasts have more than just the grand finale to look forward to this month.

The Quiz Foundation of India (QFI) is all set to return with the second edition of the Big Fat T20 Quiz, scheduled on May 31, the day of the IPL finale. While fans await the evening showdown, the morning belongs to the sharpest minds of the game. “Cricket is a religion in India and within cricket, T20 has become the most popular format of the game. For QFI as an organisation to stay relevant, it was imperative that we pick up a topic a lot of people could relate to. And I don’t see anybody else doing it either”, says Ramesh Natarajan, the quizmaster.

“We had an amazing response to the first edition. It was great to see a fully packed hall, and the participants were really good at answering the questions that I felt I should have made the quiz even harder,” he adds.

Following its successful inception last year, QFI is expanding its boundary ropes for 2026, promising to test fans on T20 cricket from across the globe. From high-stakes international T20 clashes and the Women’s Premier League to franchise tournaments such as the Caribbean Premier League, Australia’s Big Bash League, and the UAE-based International League T20, the quiz will cover every major T20 format that features a dugout. The expansion also marks a major shift in how the quiz is being prepared.

Last year’s debut was a solo-hosted affair, but the second edition will be led by a trio: auizmasters Ramesh Natarajan, Rohit Suresh, and cricket insider Gaurav Sundararaman. While last year’s edition was entirely dedicated to the IPL, this year’s question split has been recalibrated to feature 60% IPL trivia, with the remaining 40% drawing from other global T20 leagues.

Gaurav brings further depth to the questions, combining his expertise as an IPL team analyst with his media insights from ESPNcricinfo. The team has been delivering high-octane quizzing experiences and sports quizzes for over a decade. “I don’t usually encounter this kind of audience in other quizzes I host in Chennai. These are people specifically interested in cricket, which makes it a unique and fun experience for us as quizmasters,” says Ramesh Natarajan.

The two-player quiz, which has no registration fee, offers cash prizes worth ₹20,000.

@Kavikko Convention Centre, CIT Colony, Mylapore. On May 31, 2026, from 10 am to 2pm. For registrations log on to their Instagram page @quizfoundation.
