Operation SHIELDNET was launched in Thoothukudi on Wednesday and a total of 291 history sheeters were traced and prevention action taken against them in the form of arrest, warning and binding under BNSS.

Six non-bailable warrants were executed against trouble-mongers and a bail cancellation was obtained against a history sheeter of Thalamuthunagar police limits. He was identified as Muthumallaiahraj alias Mallaih, 39, who has 14 cases including attempt to murder.

As part of the operation, intensive vehicle checks were organised at 75 locations, resulting in booking of 234 cases and detention of 174 vehicles. A combined 234 Motor Vehicle Act cases, including 47 rash driving, 30 over speeding and 47 drunken driving, were booked.

In addition, six cases were registered against ganja and gutka offenders and nine persons were arrested. One-and-half kg of contraband was also seized. Three cases were registered against prohibition offenders in which four accused were arrested. The drive continues across the district.
