The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Andhra Pradesh unit on Tuesday strongly condemned remarks allegedly made by former Minister Perni Venkataramaiah (Nani) against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) of engaging in “irresponsible and insulting politics.”
In a statement, BJP State spokesperson Sadineni Yamini Sarma cautioned YSRCP leaders against making “derogatory” remarks about the Prime Minister. She alleged that the previous YSRCP government had misused public funds for “luxury and publicity” and defended Mr. Modi’s personal integrity, stating that he had devoted the past 11 years to public service without seeking personal gain.
In a separate statement, BJP SC Morcha State president Panatala Suresh said Mr. Modi’s recent speech in Telangana focused on economic discipline, fuel conservation and national development. However, instead of engaging in policy-based criticism, YSRCP leaders were resorting to mockery, he alleged. He demanded that YSRCP president Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy issue an unconditional apology over the remarks made by his party leader against the Prime Minister.
BJP State chief spokesperson Valluru Jayaprakash Narayana also criticised the comments, saying Mr. Modi’s leadership had strengthened India’s economy and enhanced the country’s global standing. Personal attacks on the Prime Minister reflected “political frustration,” he said, urging opposition parties to focus on constructive debate rather than “insult-driven politics.”
