The Health Department has set a target of administering Pulse Polio drops to 64.84 lakh children below the age of five years during the State-wide immunisation campaign to be held on Sunday.

Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, Health Minister U.T. Khader said elaborate arrangements had been made to ensure that every eligible child was covered under the programme.

A total of 36,076 vaccination booths have been identified across Karnataka for the campaign. To reach children in remote and hilly areas, the department has constituted 988 mobile teams. In addition, 2,125 transit teams will administer polio drops at railway stations, bus stands and other public places to cover children on the move.

Over 1.14 lakh personnel

More than 1.14 lakh personnel have been deployed for the drive, while 7,197 supervisors have been appointed to monitor its implementation.

Mr. Khader urged parents to ensure that all children below five years receive the vaccine.

“We have to continue our success in the fight against polio and ensure that Karnataka remains protected from the disease,” he said.

India has been certified polio-free, but maintaining that status requires continued vaccination coverage, he said. “We must preserve the country’s polio-free status. Therefore, it is essential that all eligible children receive polio drops,” he added.

Mobile application

To help parents locate vaccination centres, the Health Department has developed the “Nearby Vaccination Centre Karnataka” mobile application, through which users can identify the nearest Pulse Polio booth.

Following the vaccination day, health workers will conduct follow-up visits to ensure that children who may have missed the campaign are also covered.
