A 27-year-old woman allegedly killed herself and murdered her three-year-old child by throwing her into a well here at Sivarakottai on Saturday.

Police said, Kavitha, was a resident of Sivarakottai. She was married a few years ago to Kaliappan, a native of Erichanatham in Virudhunagar district.

They had two children, Shankar, 10, and Sanjitha, 3. Since her husband Kaliappan was in a relationship with another woman, frequent disputes arose between the couple.

Because of this, Kavitha had come to her parents’ house in Sivarakottai with her children a few weeks ago.

In this situation, during the daytime when no one was at home, Kavitha threw the child Sanjitha into a well near the house and subsequently killed herself.

As neighbours knocked on Kavitha’s house door and it did not open, they grew suspicious. When they looked inside the house, Kavitha was found unconscious.

They immediately informed Kallikudi police. The police arrived and recovered Kavitha’s body, as well as the body of the child Sanjitha from the well.

Police are investigating the matter.
