D.S. Ramesh, the Commissioner of the East City Corporation, directed officials to expedite the works related to the strengthening of the Storm Water Drain (SWD) network being taken up under World Bank funding.
Against the backdrop of the impending onset of the monsoon, Mr. Ramesh instructed officials to clean the undeveloped kaccha drains and facilitate free flow of rainwater. He also directed officials to identify and resolve areas where flooding is persistent.
Further, he instructed officials to regularly remove silt, waste, and obstructions from the already developed SWD to ensure the smooth flow of rainwater. He went on to inspect the SWD in Yamalur, Varthur, Bellandur, Croma Road, Balagere, Kaikondrahalli, and Saulkere.
The Commissioner also visited the fire station located on Sarjapur Main Road and inspected the disaster management equipment provided under the National Disaster Management Fund (NDMF).
The preparedness and operational efficiency of various emergency disaster management equipment available with the fire department were also reviewed. Officials were instructed to ensure complete readiness for monsoon-related emergencies and to keep all emergency equipment in operational condition at all times.
