U.S. President Donald Trump is “seriously considering” launching fresh strikes against Iran if last-minute negotiations do not result in a peace deal, U.S. media outlet A xios reported on Friday (May 22, 2026).
It said that Mr. Trump met with a senior national security team in the morning to discuss the war with Iran, even as Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir visited Tehran and was joined by a delegation from Qatar in a last-minute bid to hammer out a deal.
Pakistan’s powerful army chief Field Marshal Asim Munir arrived in Tehran on Friday (May 22, 2026), with Islamabad mediating as the Islamic Republic examines a new U.S. proposal to end the West Asia war.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei, however, said the visit did not necessarily mean “we have reached a turning point or a decisive situation”.

U.S. mulls new strikes on Iran: U.S. media reports
The United States is weighing new military strikes on Iran, U.S. media outlets reported on Friday (May 22, 2026). The reports, from CBS and Axios, come just hours after U.S. President Donald Trump said he would not travel to attend his son’s wedding this weekend due to “circumstances on government” and his “love for the United States of America.”
Mr. Trump said that it was “important for me to remain in Washington, D.C., at the White House during this important period of time.” Both Axios and CBS said that a final decision on new strikes hasn’t been made.

Israeli airstrikes on southern Lebanon on Friday (May 22, 2026) killed 10 people, including six paramedics and a Syrian girl, Lebanon’s Health Ministry said, the latest in near-daily attacks from both sides that have not stopped despite the fragile, U.S.-brokered ceasefire in the Israel-Hezbollah war.
The first strike hit the village of Hanouiyeh, killing four paramedics working for Hezbollah’s Islamic Health Association and wounding two others, including one paramedic, the Ministry said.
