The Telangana Board of Intermediate Education (TGBIE) has announced a series of academic reforms, including changes in assessment patterns, introduction of Activity-Based Learning (ABL) for internal assessment, and revised textbooks for first-year Intermediate students from the 2026-27 academic year.

As part of the reforms, the Board has restructured the practical examination pattern in science subjects — Physics, Chemistry, Botany, and Zoology. Under the revised system, practical examinations will now carry 15 marks each in the first and second year, while theory examinations will be conducted for 60 marks. Earlier, practicals were conducted only for second-year students for 30 marks, with theory examinations carrying 60 marks.

In Mathematics, the Board has introduced Activity-Based Learning for internal assessment in Maths-A and Maths-B, carrying 15 marks each in the first and second year. The theory examination marks have been reduced from 75 to 60.

Similar reforms have been introduced in Humanities subjects including Commerce, Accountancy, Economics, Political Science, History, Geography and Public Administration. Students will now have 20 marks allotted for Activity-Based Learning internal assessment, while theory examinations will be conducted for 80 marks instead of the earlier 100-mark theory-only system.

The Board has also introduced 20 marks of internal assessment in Languages and Modern Languages, including Telugu, Hindi, English and Urdu, with theory examinations reduced to 80 marks.

A new ACE group comprising Accountancy, Commerce and Economics has also been introduced. The Board said the group would include 20 marks of Activity-Based Learning internal assessment and 80 marks for theory examinations.

For MEC Mathematics, a separate question paper will now be conducted, along with 20 marks allotted for internal assessment through Activity-Based Learning.

The TGBIE further stated that revised textbooks for first-year Intermediate students have been prepared through subject expert committees and will be implemented from the 2026-27 academic year. The new textbooks include diagrams, knowledge boxes, QR codes, Indian knowledge systems and simulations wherever applicable. “Distribution of the revised textbooks will be completed before June 1,” the board said.
