The DMK has fulfilled only 70 out of the 511 electoral promises it made during the 2021 Assembly elections, alleged BJP national executive member, K. Annamalai, in Udhagamandalam on Friday (April 10, 2026).
Speaking at an election rally, where he campaigned for the BJP’s Ooty candidate M. Bhojarajan, Mr. Annamalai said that out of the 511 electoral promises that were made in 2021, four were made to the voters in the Nilgiris. “None of the four electoral promises were fulfilled. Extrapolating the same across Tamil Nadu, only 70 of the electoral promises have been fulfilled,” he alleged.

“If only 70 out of the 511 promises have been fulfilled, that translates to roughly only 15% [of the promises],” he said. “Having fulfilled only 15% of the promises, the Chief Minister [M.K. Stalin] and his entire family are claiming that he has fulfilled 99% of his promises from the previous election campaign,” he said.
Mr. Annamalai also took aim at Nilgiris MP, A. Raja, who he said had been “caught” making disparaging comments about the Chief Minister, which was allegedly posted on a YouTube channel. Mr. Raja has claimed that the purported audio clip was fabricated and has issued a legal notice to the channel.

Mr. Annamalai said that due to the release of the clip, Mr. Raja has been unable to campaign for the DMK candidates contesting in Coonoor and Gudalur, and for the Congress candidate in Ooty.
He also said that the incumbent Ooty MLA, R. Ganesh, had “done nothing” for his constituents. “The Congress also knew this. That is why they changed their candidate [to B. Ramachandran],” he added.
“Ooty [sic] is a border town, where a lot of tourists come, where there are lots of problems due to human-animal interactions. It is a place dependent on the tea industry. So, it is a district which has to work with the Central government,” he said.
Mr. Annamalai said that the DMK government had been a “useless government.” “The cost of living has increased, so have taxes, while the district that is dependent on tourism has been burdened with an e-pass system for tourists.”
Mr. Annamalai also said that the State had a law-and-order problem, stating that Tamil Nadu had witnessed 8,008 murders in the last five years, that there had been 2,080 rapes and 39,900 cases of sexual assault against minors, alleged Mr. Annamalai.
Mr. Annamalai also took aim against DMK MP, K. Kanimozhi, for stating that people were suffering while waiting in queues for LPG cylinders. He said that while neighbouring countries had witnessed price hikes for fuel and other disruptions to normal life, there was no such crisis in India.
He also criticised Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for not campaigning for the party candidate in the Kavundampalayam constituency, stating that even though the candidate contesting there was from the Indian National Congress, Mr. Gandhi was not campaigning there. “The airport is in the same constituency, and he is not campaigning there,” Mr. Annamalai remarked.
